I learned how to enjoy cinema, but as well discovered how crappy my favourite movies were before learning film. That was a bit disappointing. I’d certainly watch The White Ribbon.

Tulio is a short film that explores a woman's path through different stages of her life, as she encounters death, manifested through an imaginary friend, Tulio. The three scenes explore: awareness of mortality; experience of loss; and her own passing will be the defining moments both for the character and the audience.

I am quite a photograph aficionado, and if you know me, you'd know that I go with my camera everywhere, despite this, i had never used my Nikon as a cam corder before, and I have to say that it was a nightmare. Lighting, lighting, lighting, think of lighting. I couldn't simply change the aperture or speed here, it was much more complicated, Flash? Yea, right. After about twenty minutes playing around with the camera, I simply quitted, It wasn't worth it.

So, We made our workshop with Alva's simple Samsung camera. The panning shots weren't as difficult as we thought they would be, we simply strapped the camera to one of those bos moving things with wheels and used that. Then we invented a panning device made with a tray and four tennis balls. The balls worked as bearings and the tray as a support.

Last night I enjoyed to watch "The Ship that Rocked" a great movie about a radio station located in a boat anchored in the coasts of britain transmitting Rock and Roll night and day. Some good comedy and adventure with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Bill Nighy, directed by Richard Curtis who is the fellow who made Love actually movie I haven't seen yet but Im told its pretty good.

So, really enjoyable, easy watching.

So, I opened my fridge today, and as you'll see in the pictures, I have to go to the supermarket. The thing, is that the emptiness of the fridge allowed me to see a hidden treasure that lies within. I had seen this before, but never paid attention to it. Until today. What I am about to say is shocking. But, I've found H.A.L. 9000 series' daughter inside my fridge.

Is my fridge now going to poison my food now that I've discovered it's true identity? Are we all Samsung users doomed?

The director is in charge of all the creative aspects of a film, as they decide the story line and the visual elements that will be in the movie, from pre production to post production. With the script on hand, its the directors' role to visualise and to get in touch with the producers to start the pre selection of cast and others such as the people in charge of: lights, camera, etc, all through the producers but always taking in consideration the Director's preferences.

There are some directors that are more collaborative than others, for example the Cohen brothers, who are well known for being really nice chaps to work with. On the other hand there's people like Hanke or Hitchcock who are much more precise and authoritarian with their work, as they know exactly what they want and how.

An intellectual with an amazing variety of interests, both cultural and artistic, his directing has definitely have left a mark in the history of cinema. He began his career making films for the Soviet Government, which all tough allowed him to make "big" movies, he wasn't allowed to explore his different ideas as the target for this movies was really clear, get people to understand the Russian revolution and the new "government". Frustrated by the restrictions he had in his film making in The USSR, he moves to the US and shoots 30 000 meters of film for "Que Viva Mexico" in 1932, movie which he couldn't finish and was finished in 1979, 31 years after his death.

Boogie, el aceitoso is a cartoon movie based in the marvellous "Negro" Fontanarossa comics. A mixture between comics, 3D, animation and lots of other techniques combine to make this extremely bizarre and fantastic. This is not for everyone, as critics are really deep and lots of people might be offended. A straight and euphemism less critic to the american warrior.

Bad Lieutenant (1992) (Column)

I saw the remake not long a go as you might have read, and I found this to be in some way Nicholas Cage redemption after movies such as Ghost Rider, Next and his economical breakdown. And I found that this was quite a respectable part of this movie. So, at the video store when I found the original Harvey Keitel Bad Lieutenant I decided to rent it right away.

I wasn't really sure what to expect, but when the movie started I realised what I should expect. In the first place, great acting, and great script. Harvey Keitel is the bad boy you want if you want a real crime movie. But this is not a crime movie, this goes far from Scorsese's mafia series (Goodfellas, Casino, etc.) it goes further than Tarantino, the director, Abel Ferrara, a pretty unknown director, but in other movies he got to the same place as he did in this one.

Bad Lieutenant is a movie about humans, its a movie about a circle of addictions and low lifes that takes the human as low as it can get. It's not an easy movie to watch, its not, but still I've seen it over 3 times now, and still have it at home. You have to stand there and watch a nun being raped or Harvey mentally raping two teens, its just so raw, so true that it scares people. It is a scary movie, but it is a really true movie.

I have to say that Avatar is the exact representation of today's world.

It represents people's concerns, it represents what people like and what they believe in.

Besides, it is made in such a way that it captivates everyone, me, gamers, people in general.

And seriously, graphically it just blew my mind, it was really something. The story is basically Pocahontas, and the acting is standard, but I have to five it a 5 stars because it represents the world in which we live in.

Rebel Without a Cause (1955)

James Dean is one of those icons in film history and when watching one of his movies, you realise why. Rebel Without a Cause has to be one of the greatest movies of the time. All though the message is over clear, this movie wins our hearts and minds. Natalie Wood's acting and Sal Mineo's were fantastic too.

This Island Earth (1955)

This is just another one of those great early sci-fi movies in which the effects are just SO SO unrealistic that you just don't care. This is what makes old school sci fi so much better that the new one. Although fun to watch, it was really crap.

Blow Up (1966)

As a british classic, Blow Up has been forgotten lately, and I know why. Although it does contain some AWSOME lines and some great scenes, the acting is just SO BAD. David Hemmings' acting is just so bad that it becomes hard to watch the whole thing. Very representative of it's time and place, this movie is underrated and deserves credit for its social message and escenificacion on England in the 1960's

Bullit (1968)

Bullit is one of the most iconographic movies of all times for us the motor enthusiasts, and has to be one of Steve Mcqueen's best movies. Robert Vaughn's acting is particularly weak and the script is not brilliant, but still, much better that all o Hollywood's blockbusters nowadays. A very cool classic.

First of all, I watched a really bad copy, so Special effects and CGI count's be appreciate due to bad image quality.

Then, Roland Emmerich's movies are generally destroyed by critics, and in my mind Im one, so I'll just follow a tradition.

You could really enjoy this movie if you liked War of The Worlds and you are a retard. The main problem is the Script. THE SCRIPT! The whole thing appears to be written with a manual. First, characters. Remember Tom Cruis, Dakota Fanning and Justin Chatwin as the Ferrier family (War of the worlds)? We had, divorced parents, little girl who likes his father but recognised that her mother's boyfriend is a successful man too, then the a bit older kid who is kinda fighting with his father and calls him by his name. We have Dad as a working man who has some things he likes but waits to do them after his shitty job. And we have Mom, she is happy with his new acquisition but still have feelings for his ex.

So, in 2012 we had, well, THE EXACT SAME CHARACTERS. Seriously John Cusack is the father and some never seen before actors play his family, WotW model.

Acting was another BIG problem. This just shows how unprofessional Emmerich can be. Spilberg hired top of the range people, Cruise, Fanning, Tim Robbins, etc. Here we had Cousack and well, no one else worth mentioning o yes, I was forgetting, it's just that his acting was so bad that my mind automatically forgot him , Chiwetel Ejiofor , I had seriously forgotten this guy!

After the Family factor (WotW), we had the black guy factor (Independence Day) with Chitahajdasdasdas or however his name is spelled, and with "The President". This is based on a black guy who practically saves the world.

Then there was the political bad white guy (Independence day too (James Redhorn))

There was also the save everyone no matter the cost factor, the I generalise and stereotype Russian people as fat and wealthy factor, the all arabs are evil factor, the new husbands can die and no one cares factor, the little smart girl factor. They were all in!

Seriously, he had a manual. The Emmerich's guide to a badass Hollywood box office burner.

The story had holes as big as lunar craters.

But still, the worst part is the ending. No no, I'm lying, the best part was the ending, as it ended my suffering.

If you want to see a better Emmerich movie go and rent Independence day, or just turn your TV on, its always on in some channel, or if not, something by Michael Bay , generally are much more fun and less depressing we are all gonna die, Armaggedon for instance.

Now, if you want to watch some seriously good sci-fi weird stuff, you can go watch something by J.J. Abrams, he is like the king of freaks, but produces great movies such as Cloverfield or Star Trek.

So, See you guys soon, and please don't waste your money by watching this in the cinema, its just not worth it.

The Usual Suspects

Two nights ago I was looking for something to watch, regularly when I find nothing at the video store I just look which of my movies I want to watch again. This has made me watch Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Wag The Dog like a million times. This time I went for the Dogs, and as I reached to grab the video, this move just fell on me and it was The Usual Suspects. I knew this was a good one, and saved it for last night.

I started watching it and fell asleep exactly 13 minutes into it. Then woke up seven minutes later and rewind it, at this point I remembered what DF told me, "Its slow, but has some great last five minutes."

I gotta tell you this, Im not ruining the movie, but if you really like the whole suspense thing, stop reading this NOW and go rent the fucking thing.

With the tag line in my DVD was: "In a world where nothing is what it seems you've got to look beyond..." and that kinda gives it away.

The whole movie is really well made and I didn't think it was slow at any point. It was actually really intriguing and nicely made. But it is just too obvious. You might say that I'm just being smart and going like "O, no, iI got it from the beginning", but from half the movie forward, it was so obvious. Why? Money. That's the simple answer. Lets see, who acts in it, El Che Guebara (Benicio Del Toro) who could fit perfectly Sergeant Jew in Inglorious Bastards, Alex Baldwin's Brother, Kevin Pollak, and some other guys, and then we have Gabriel Byrne, who is a really great actor, but I think the character doesn't suit him. And last but not least, Kevin Spacey.

Now, why would you pay Spacy, who is the most expensive one here to make the whole movie if the movie is not about him? What really gives it away is how the other bad guys change and he is always the same. It might be the Hungarian Mobsters or the Argentine smugglers, but the whole think points at the cripple (Spacey). For example, as you might know, Marlon Brando appeared only like a minute in Apocalypse Now but still was the highest paid actor. Why? Because the movie was about him. About finding him. Here, the movie is abou his view, and each time it is a bit different revealing the whole story.

I think it is a really well made film, a bit overrated in IMDB with 8.7 and position #21 in the top 250. But still very recommendable.

Assassination of a High School President

Its now quarter to three in the morning, and I am utterly confused.
I really don't know what to think. I've just seen Brett Simon's Assassination of a High School President, and I just don't know what to think.
The only reason I know who Brett Simon is, is because I just saw his only movie, which never got released.
Was this movie the best thing I've ever seen? Maybe not, but was it near?
Was this the worst piece of footage in the same film roll? No, as I've seen "Jeepers Creepers 2" and that definitely takes the prize.
But so, then what the hell have I've just seen?
Well, (Might Contain Spoilers) let me tell you what I've just seen. I saw Claire Trevor (Yes, the Queen Of Film Noir) fucking with Zack Efferon (Yes, Im misspelling his name and I won't Hyper-link him). Seriously, this was "Brick" 2. It wasn't as good as Brick, but I never expected it. The first 30 minutes I thought this was the greatest thing I've ever see, it was just making me laugh about it, and wasn't really sure if I was laughing at them, or at the way they are parodying american films. But then the whole thing just became good, in a really weird way.
Sorry, by this point generally in my reviews, you already know everything about the movie and how much I either loved it, despised it or was bored by. So, the story is about a sophomore teen in high school in USA, and how he wished to be a reporter, and as he is given the task to do a cover article on the High School President, a really superficial and stupid basketball player. The SATs are stolen and his boot liking story makes our detective to realise that is Mr. President who stole the exams. The thing is that all the time you are going like : "C'mon I wont buy your bullshit", but then in the next scene you go like "OOOOOOOO, I see now, how smart". And the whole movie is like that, even Bruce Willies is in it, acting as the headmaster, no offence to Mr I. D. Tate, but I would love to have Bruce as my Headmaster. The thing is that he is not just the headmaster, he is how his characters would be as Headmasters, because in the movie he is also a veteran from the first gulf war. So the whole thing is just, just, just, I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS!!
Now, the tricky part. Do I recommend this movie?
Yes, I do.
Wait! Do I?
Yes, after a lot of taught (that's bullshit) I do recommend this movie.
Now the thing is that I really want you to watch it and as it never got really released, I will be lending this DVD to anyone interested. Well, I think that is it, I should really get some rest.

Actors I Would Watch In Anything

There are some actors that can play anything and do it in such a way that they become the character, and others that adapt the character to themselves, for instance, Nicolas Cage, who I find to be a great actor, but when I'm watching one of his movies, Im watching him, not the character.
Jack Nicholoson is one of the greatest actors ever to set foot in Hollywood, and can play anything that he will rock it. For instance, he plays a great drunk in Easy Rider and a great psychopath in The Shining, and manages to be utterly charming in Something's Gotta give. This is because he makes the characters a part of himself and that's why he is so believable.
Sir Morgan Freeman goes just with Jack, from Driving Miss Daisy to The War of the Worlds, in which the only good part is his narrative. But he does fall with some technicalities when he is bought just for his name like in Bruce All Mighty or Batman (Good movies Which personally I just can't stand).
Anthony Hopkins is another actor who achieves to basically, win my heart and mid. He can be starring in a classic (Silence of the lambs / The Elephant Man) or being a suport actor for some really bad movie (The Mask of Zorro) but he always find a way to be the best. By the way, I saw one of his new movies like two or three years ago, Fracture, and it was more than descent, recommendable.
Sir Michael Caine falls into the same criteria as Morgan Freeman, as he is a great actor but Hollywood tends to use him for movies like well, Batman, again. But still, a MAGNIFICENT actor.
Michael Douglas is another example of a great actor. I think I like him so much because his characters represent what I wanna be. Still, he hasn't made anything really good, well I mean, his acting is great, but really, in which great movie has he starred? Any thoughts? Wall Street maybe, but still.... I think he should stop doing magnificent appearances in crappie movies such as Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Beyond a Reasonable Doubt, or The In-Laws. And do something really good ones in for all. (I was wrong, he made a good movie recently King of California, it isn't a masterpiece but it is nice, decent and fun)
(By this point I'm realising this are all old men)
Emma Thompson and Meryl Streep are both great actresses but their work tends to fall in my boring lists but still, great actresses.

Now for the Bias Part,
Tarantino, I really think that he is a great actor, in movies like From Dawn Till Dusk or Pulp Fiction (Bonnie), he is a really good actor, but maybe it is because i worship him so much (Except for Inglorious Bestards as you might have read recently).
Then I agree with DF (My films teacher) with Denzel Washington, (From Carbon Copy to American Gangster) and I just realised that we both have Emma Thompson. Al Pacino and Robert Deniro are both great actors that I would also watch anything with, but I think that is kind of obvious so I wont get into details. O and yes, Gary Oldman.
Ray Liota and Joe Pesci are two magnificent gangsta kind of actors that I was leaving behind.

The Deal

Last night I watched this movie called "The Deal", the only real reason why a saw this is because William Macy is the protagonist, and I find him to be utterly fantastic and hilarious.
The movie is about this film producer who is bankrupt and hasn't done anything for like 8 years, his nephew interrupts him when he is trying to commit suicide and gives him his script, which gives him the opportunity to continue his career. As the movie develops, the excellent script turns into some kind of crazy Jew movie about a Jew who is some kind of black shwarsenegeregen and kills Muslims and stuff. The process is fantastically made and the whole time I couldn't stop laughing.
IMDB gave it it 5.8 but I think that people just didn't get it. Most jokes are basic, but they have a second meaning, and if you get them, the whole thing is marvellous. Seriously, I really recommend it, it was just what I wanted to see.

Following my Kubrick watching week, I watched "Barry Lyndon". The way in which the XVII century was portrayed was impeccable, and the way in which the editing is made transmits the whole slow pace of this society. I had a really hard time liking it. It was really nice, and I really wanted to like it, but I just didn't. I feel terrible, I can't believe I didn't like something made by Kubrick, but I just didn't. Was it really fantastically made? Yes, but it was slow and boring and at any point did it absorb me or intrigue me in any way. I have to confess an atrocity, i fast fowered some parts, well lots of them, they were just SO slow. I had to separate it in 3 viewing. I love slow stuff like sit and listen to Bach or Beethoven while padding my dog in a rainy day, but this was just boring. Maybe I'm Americanising , in that case well, I'll just rent Terminator 8 or transformers the revolution of Mac.
I just read this before posting it and my review is pretty crappy. Sorry guys!

On Thursday evening my mom told me that we were invited to the opening of the "European Cinema Week" here in Buenos Aires. Personally I enjoy going to those openings, seeing the directors and drinking almost good champagne while talking smart things and bragging about who I love French cinema, so I said sure, lets go!. My father opposed but he went with us just because he had nothing to do. After leaving home I checked IMDB on this "Un Prophete", and it had 8.1, and the Tags were "Mafia, Inmates, Prison" and the description "A young Arab man is sent to a French prison where he becomes a mafia kingpin", and that's what I told my mom when she asked what this movie was about, and she said "O, a French detective Noire film, good" and I said "No, its nothing like that its Mafia gang violent prison stuff" and she apparently achieved to misunderstand my words and said "o good, i like French detective films", so I said, Whatever.
When we got into the theatre, some Cannes big shot explained the whole thing and presented some European directors and actors who where in the theatre with us, everyone applauded and when he said "every year in Cannes the journalist expect something strong, so we wait until Saturday and show the strongest film we have, and this is it." That was when me mom said "mmm, I think we are leaving" and I opposed rotundly.
The film started, it was good, but then half an hour passed until something happened, and that something was this guy sticking a razor in his mouth and bleeding, then my mom left and so did lots of people. Five minutes later this guy was stabbing another one with this razor with his mouth and lots of Tarantino style blood spilling all around. The guy on my right was an american film critic and he was covering his face saying "Shit o shit shit", and I told him "Pretty fucked up huh?" and he said "Totally fucked up". As the movie continued it turned more and more unrealistic and French. This meaning that for 40 minutes nothing happened. The director sitting just in front of me had directed something important like, academy award wining or something like that. He fell asleep, so did the producer by his side. The Spanish directors and producers at his right just left, so did the Cannes big shot, who returned 1 minute before the screening ended. The movie was good, yes but it over 60% of the material was unnecessary which made it extremely long. I fell asleep for like 5 minutes and when I woke up I had no idea what was going on, but it was so late and I was so tiered that I didn't really mind. I didn't left just because my mom said I wouldn't like it and she was right, but I wouldn't let her know that.
I realised no one else was enjoying this when some granny's phone started ringing and no one cared, she even answered the fucking thing and no one cared.
In the last 30 minutes (of 155) I was so sick of this thing that I started looking around, in my row, only twos eats were still occupied, one of which, me.
Finally, it ended but I wouldn't just leave, I wanted to look intellectual in front of the directors and act like I was reading the credits, impossible thing as I had left my glasses at home, then I clapped and run away.
Was it good? Yes
Did I enjoy it? Not a bit.

Inglorious Tarantino

I was really exited by the idea of watching "Inglorious Bastards or Bustards or whatever", and yesterday morning my father told me the video store had send it and he had already watch it twice because it was so great. Generally I don't share tastes in films with my father, but he does has some hits, this wasn't one of the. The acting is overacting. The plot does not exist. The story is completely unbelievable. This is fiction with over-fictional elements brought in a semi-serious setting. A farmer hiding Jews in the basement, being "interrogated" friendly by a Nazi, while the guards wait outside, they come in later and shoot them all and let one escape that is the only good part of the movie and actually, It is stupid. The stupidity does not end. This was not a funny movie, this was not satire, this was not entertainment, this was a long long list of stupid scenes, one unbelievable plot hole after another. An insult to history, an insult to every intelligent movie-lover. I was mad after seeing this. I really do not understand why people give compliments to this movie. Really.
As you might now or not, I love whatever Tarantino directs, writes or spits on, because his style is my style. But this, this was just bad, bad and stupid, stupid and american. If this was directed by any other director I would just say, "bah, its bad, but entertaining", but when you expect Tarantino, you don't expect entertaining, you expect Jackie Brown or Pulp Fiction or Crazy Grindhouse, but never entertaining. This is really bad. Just Bad. I watched it with my brother, and he hated it too, my mother hated it too, but my dad loved it. I don't know, but I think that this is just crap. And Pitt, someone who's acting I find generally fantastic fails in every single way. Mr. Waltz does saves the film, as his acting is superb. But as a whole, its just bad, really bad.

The people at the video store insisted for weeks for me to wathch this movie, as I kept insisnting that I wanted to see something new, but I had watched everything else. So, I finally said Ok, the hell with it, send me Gi-I-Joe.
I got the movie, and as soon as it started I said, wait, this is bad, but not that bad. Then It all becamed stupid ridiculous and childish. The script is the worst thing sience, well, the worst thing.
Just, the story is so, stupid. It`s like well, don`t expect anything good from this movie. The acting is terrible too.
Generally I would continue distroying this "film" but its just so borring that I will stop.
DO NOT SPEND MONEY OR TIME IN THIS THING!

I wasnt very sure what to expect form this movie. Was it a freak movie about aliens? Was it a really bad "thing" about stuff. Well, it wasn`t. It was fantastic, great connotations of reality and fantastic special effects. The whole story narrated by this guy who looks as a basic banker, no crazy Schauarezenegereneaseagen acting, just emotions and a documentary, very much like Cloverfield (which I really enjoyed).
So, really great sci-fi movie, with some great acting, and realistioc special effects. The way in which is made transmits how posible it is for this aliens to live with us, I mean there is no point in the whole movie in which I said "Wait a minute, that makes no sense".

I really liked this movie, I felt diferent while watching it, its just diferent. The story is just basic french couple with no children wiuth the great performance of Gérard Depardieu and as the story evolves, the audience has to rely on facts of their own asumption as the film has many holes which are just suggested but never clear. As this parisian investigator starts a independant investigation while on holidays, all the characters get involved in a tragedy, linking peoples drinking problems and childhood.

AWSOME
No, seriosuly, really great, it was just what I expected and nothing more or less.
In transporter 3 you have hour and a half of high speed persuits and riduculous high jumps with audis and beemers. What can be better than that? Script is absoultely un realistical and characters unbelievable, but its just.. FUN.
Well, then is Crank 2, i`ve been waiting for it for months, and it was actually much funnier that what I expected, an army of prostitutes shooting up pimps and drug carteles. Just amazing, extremely fun and entretaining.
Seriously, if you are looking for a basic pop corn eating block buster, this is fantastin. Seriously fantastic.

Well, yes, its been quite a long time since I wrote my last review, but well, it was a harsh year.
So, lets starta again!
Full Metal Jacket (1987)
Kubrik is one of my favorite directors, but I don´t know why every time I go the the Video Rental, I forget to rent his movies. In this ocation, I remembered and took "Nacido para Matar" (Born to Kill) wich was Full Metal Jacket.
I was surprised to find the actor from, I think is Law an Order Criminal Intent or something like it, a really great actor with a whole retard face wich transmites tension and paranoya.
With the guy who plays the little boy`s father in Transporter 2, as a protagonist, this was an exelent film, I was really surprised how much opf the movie is dedicated to the training, and just the second half is about Vietam.
The feelings this movie transmits are utterly shoking, and comunication between characters builds up the real `Nam experience.
Really a great movie, totally recomendable.

Mr. Tarantino illuminated our world in the early 90`s with movies such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs and Jackie Brown. Quentin is a close friend to the director Robert Rodriguez, and is almost as crazy as him. So, you can imagine that a combination between this two would be amazing. And there is such a thing.
In the beginning there was light, and then From Dusk Till Dawn Arrived. This was written by Tarantino, directed by Rodriguez and propagandized by George Clooney and Tarantino. So, a crime road movie at the beginning portraying a crazy raping unstable youngest brother (Tarantino) who helps his older bank robbing brother (Clooney). As they escape, they kidnap a family, consisting of Harvey Kietel as an ex preacher, who has lost his wife in a car accident, and his jap adopted kid and his eldest daughter. As they cross to Mexico, and wait for a smuggler in the "Titty Twister" bar. This is an obscure place, where at night the staff turns into vampires and eat all of the customers. A road crime movie mutates in the way that only this writer director combination could do.
Extremely recommendable.

Probably one of the worse movies I've ever seen. Absolute stereotyped teen chillier. The terrible story is about a group of north american teenagers who travel to a holiday house to celebrate "St. Jhons" and the solstice. One of the girls had a twin sister, who committed suicide in that same house about a year earlier. and her spirit starts to tack to her in creepy ways. After a series of stereotyped shitty scenes, in which we are introduced to a creepy old guy who looks as he is going to kill them all, but off course, he is the good guy who looks creepy because his granddaughter disappeared.

Well, the thing is that at the end, they tell us that it was Sophie (suicide girl) that run over the little creepy old man grand daughter, and because of the guilt, she kills herself. Sophie's ex, who had buried the body in the woods gets killed when he is running drunk from little girl's spirit who is vomiting some kind of mud full of warms.

And we get this ending in which Megan (the other twin) and some guy just walk away from scene saying something like "we are going to be happy now" "yes, no more dark magic" "haha".

WHAT A PIECE OF CRAP!!!!!!

Holly Imdb gave it 5.4, and I thin they were merciful, as 3 is way too much.

Hope you don't see this piece of shit, and see you in the next review.

This is an analysis about the image that you see up there. That is from Tarantino's Pulp Fiction (1994), the scene in which Vincent Vega (Travolta) and Mia Wallace (Thurman) dance to the "Jack Rabbit Slims Twist Contest".

Regarding the visual of this still, it is clear the use of light and basic colours to create a twisty jazzy mood. The camera focus is based in the main characters in the front and the rest is blurry, mainly because of the lighting which makes the aperture to be much bigger due to the poor lighting causing the blurry background.

The clothes chosen for this scene communicate an important part of the personalities of the characters, which are both very classic and formal but seductive at the same time.

The space in which the scene is set is a Retro Bar in Los Angeles, which is at least confusing as there is not such a thing as a clear time space correlation. All though the movie is set in the 90s, the character's clothes are universal and, for example, Vincent drives a Impala (or Bel Air).....

Although Soviet filmmakers in the 1920s disagreed about how exactly to view montage, Sergei Eisenstein marked a note of accord in "A Dialectic Approach to Film Form" when he noted that montage is "the nerve of cinema," and that "to determine the nature of montage is to solve the specific problem of cinema."

While many Soviet filmmakers, such as Lev Kuleshov, Dziga Vertov, and Vsevolod Pudovkin put forth explanations of what constitutes the montage effect, Eisenstein's view that "montage is an idea that arises from the collision of independent shots" wherein "each sequential element is perceived not next to the other, but on top of the other" has become most widely accepted.

Analysis

I will analyse the firs five minutes of the movie “The Departed”. This movie was made in 2006 as a remake from the Chinese movie “Internal Affairs”, and directed by Martin Scorsese. It was wrote by William Monahan. The writer is an american award winning script writer, he has directed other films such as “Kingdom of Heaven” (2005). In this movie, two police officers Billy Costigan (Leonardo Di Caprio ) and “Colin” (Mat

Damon) will be infiltrated in their oposite sides, the good policeman will be an undercover inside the force for the Irish Mafia and the low life cadet will be a police officer undercover in the Mafia. Violence, scams and betrayal will create a number of blood marked trails that will bring this story to an unexpected conclusion. This movie has an incredible cast including, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg and Martin Sheen between others.

Martin Scorsese is one of the most recognised directors of all times, he has directed movies such as Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, The Colour of money and Raging Bull between others.

This opening scene has as a dramatic purpose to introduce the main characters to the audience and set the time and space, and specially to introduce in a much grater way to the character represented by Nicholson.

The movie starts with a scene were a riot of black people is taking place. This seems to be footage from 80’s news, or a documentary.

Scorsese has chosen a numeber of stylistic devices as to acomplish with his target.

In first place, the use of camera. Eye level angle is used the most in this extract, along with medium angle, but in a smaller frequency. The eye level objective is to create the feeling that the audience is situated inside the movie, in Nicholson’s place. This also means that at least this piece of the movie is based on this character’s point of view.

Medium shots shots predominate in this extract. The angle of the camera is used as to maintain the most important subject in this first minutes, this is Frankie Costello (Nicholson). There are some long shots and some close ups, as to show specifics, such as the money that “Ben” hands to “Mr. C.”

Also regarding to the camera use is the movement. In the first seconds of the action, traking shots and following shots move along with Costelo. This shows both his importance and how the action develops around him. Also, the use of zooming, mostly zooming in, will get “closer” to the characters face, showing the importance of this and to convert the shot into a close up, making the expression the action.

The framing in this scene is really Scorcian, asi in general, the characters are left to a side, as to show both the main character, but also his surroundings. Also, the camera changes the main focus whenever a hand on hand exchange is made, this is as to show one of the important parts of this movie, the exchange of money.

In second place, the use of sound is also very important in this extract. In the introduction footage of “some years ago”, diegetic sound will open the scene with the fight noises from the riots. Just 10 seconds after the monologue starts, the song “Gimme Shelter” by the Rolling Stones will start fading in. This song will remain as a backround untill young Collin speakes. At this point, the song will change to a bit instrumental song, and will return to “Gimme Shelter”, this song will sybolize two things. The fist one regards to the time this movie is stetted at the beginning, wich is the same time as this song was written, and on the other hand, is the theme of the song “ Rape, murder, is only a shot away”, representing the shifting shapes of people and the thin line between a cop and a gangster.

The editing of this extract is continuous and hollywoodian, and there are no transfers between scenes. The peace of the editing in this extract is settled according to the dialogue and the action. In general, this are long takes and have a fluid transition. A long take will in general be one in which the main character is tracked by the camera. There is no use of special effects in this extract.

The lighting of this introductory bit of the movie is really important. As the intention of this part is to introduce the audience with the action and specially with the characters, the entrance of Mr. Costello will be a very important segment. The cinematographer creates a sense of mystery and obscureness around this character, and as to achieve this, his face is always on the shadows, in a chiaroscurian way. Even when there is light in the room and the rest of the characters are illuminated, Costello’s face will always be on the shadows, and is illuminated at the end of the extract, when he makes his final statement: “When i was your age they would say, you can become cops or criminals, today, what I'm saying is this: when you are facing a loaded gun........What’s the difference?” This makes an ending for the establishing part of the character. Most of the lighting is artificial and pointed to specific subjects, but natural light is the sense that is generally intended, and in the execution it is fully natural.

Mise-en-sene in this extract is simply trying to get the senesce that this is settled in the 80’s or so. So, cars are from the 80’s, and the diner looks kind of around those times, classic american style, and some other key elements, such as an old fan creates the needed realism.

In conclusion, the opening 5 minutes from The Departed are one of the gratest parts of movies in history, and is really effective as it settles the audience with the main characters, time and space.
